Quiet Before the Storm? All Eyes on the FOMC Today and How #Gold and #Silver Will React.

By Robert Gottlieb · October 28, 2026

The market is widely expecting the FOMC to leave interest rates unchanged at today's meeting. However, the real focus will be on the Fed's forward guidance and whether it signals the possibility of additional tightening as inflation remains a concern. For gold and silver, the key will be how the U.S. dollar and Treasury yields react to the Fed's statement and press conference. Any indication that interest rates may remain elevated for longer, or that further tightening is possible, could create additional pressure on precious metals. On the other hand, a more dovish outlook could provide some much-needed support.

Once we get through today's FOMC decision, there are still several major obstacles ahead. The upcoming midterm elections, the unresolved Iran and broader Middle East crisis, elevated crude oil prices, and ongoing inflation concerns will continue to influence market sentiment.

The longer-term fundamentals for precious metals remain intact, in my view, but that does not mean we cannot experience further corrections and volatility along the way. As I have been saying for months, patience remains your best move for now. These markets are simply too driven by headlines, geopolitical uncertainty, and interest rate expectations. We need to get past some of these major events before we can get a clearer picture of where gold and silver are headed.

Sometimes the best trade is no trade at all. Patience, discipline, and keeping an eye on the underlying fundamentals remain key.
